The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has revealed that the total cost to develop and maintain its downloadable eTax product since 2006 has been $45 million, in response to an inquiry from ZD Net. The figure includes the cost of developing its mac-compatible version of the software, which will be available for the first time this year.

Chief Information Officer at Fire and Rescue NSW Richard Host has explained to The Australian that his agency’s migration to a cloud-based email platform will be based upon the Microsoft Office 365 product. The Fire and Rescue email project is one of five cloud trials currently underway within the NSW Government, which will inform an upcoming whole-of-government Cloud Computing Policy.

The Department of Finance and Deregulation has entered into a $3.3 million leasing arrangement with Konica Minolta for multi-function devices under the whole-of-government Major Office Machines panel.

After a hardware failure took its web-based passports application service offline for a week, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has assured IT News that it does not believe it needs to review its ICT infrastructure as a result.

“The failure was a rare event under any conditions and does not require a change in our overall hosting strategy. No action can be taken to further assure the reliability of hardware components and their manufacturing tolerances,” a DFAT spokesperson told the website.

Bespoke software specialists iTree have won a $2.1 million contract from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to develop a National System for Commercial Vessel Safety.

The Victorian Department of Health has signed a $5.8 million deal with EBOS Group for the provision of a Vaccine Warehousing On-Line Ordering and Distribution System.

Also in Victoria, the Department of Human Services has spent $2 million on servers and storage equipment from Oracle, in support of its roll out of an Integrated Client and Case Management System (ICCMS).

The Western Australian Department of Education has signed a five year software licensing deal with Oracle, worth $16.8 million. The deal will include the “rationalisation and modernisation of Oracle licences and associated support and maintenance subscriptions currently provided under the Department of Education’s contract ETP052/2003”.

VicRoads is considering outsourcing its data centre requirements, IT chief Susan Sly has told IT News. The move is in keeping with a broader push towards outsourcing and contestability within the State’s ICT functions.

The NSW Government has released an updated version of its Procure IT contract template, which is mandatory for all agency ICT procurements. The new version 3.1 framework now includes provisions to terminate a contract if the supplier fails to comply with the NSW Department of Finance and Services’ Business Ethics Statement.

Attorney-General and Minister for the Public Service Mark Dreyfus has launched a new online electoral enrolment service, designed to target 1.4 million eligible voters who are missing from the electoral roll.
