Australian Government Gateway Review Process Outlined

Approximately 250 delegates - mainly government procurement officers - listened to Robert Higgins, Branch Manager of the Gateway Unit within the Department of Finance and Administration (DOFA) outline the federal government’s intended approach to the Gateway Review Process at DOFA’s second annual Australian Government Procurement Conference on Tuesday 4 April 2006.

Reshuffle May See New IT Minister in Victoria but no Word yet on ICT Priorities

A reshuffle following the appointment of John Brumby and Rob Hull as Premier and Deputy may see Victoria gain a new IT Minister. There's also no detail yet on how the change of leadership will impact the Victorian Government's approach to ICT industry development or its ICT purchasing commitments.

Procurement Guide for Vic Public Sector

The Victorian Auditor-General has published a Good Practice Guide on Public Sector procurement, setting out best practice procedures for all Departments and Agencies involved in the purchasing function.

Entitled Public Sector Procurement: Turning Principles into Practice, the Guide describes good practice in each of the major phases of procurement. It provides an overview of the principles underpinning how procurement should be carried out, the phases of the procurement cycle, the aims of each phase and the key steps involved.

Victorian Report on Joined up Government

The Victorian Government has just released a new report that examines approaches to "joined up government". Though general in nature, it could provide clues for suppliers wishing to engage with the Victorian Government.

As part of its charter to promote effective public administration in Victoria, the State Services Authority has examined Victorian approaches to joined up government. This follows on from the Authority's previous project on The Future of the Public Sector that identified engaging across jurisdictions and portfolios as a major challenge for the public sector.

Process for Implementing PCs Worth $1b in Schools Still Unclear

The Federal Government seems committed to spending the first $100m of its National Secondary School Computer Fund by June 2008. Whilst the application process for schools appears to be well underway, there is still no word on exactly how the state and territory agencies, as well as non-government school systems, will undertake purchasing of the equipment and services.

The SA Government claims to be leading the way in the fight to reduce carbon emissions by announcing plans to become carbon neutral.

Victorian Auditor Finds Serious Shortcomings in Records Management

The Victorian Auditor General’s Office (VAGO) has just released a report into records management within Victorian public sector agencies. It found serious shortcomings in the record management by many agencies, and made some sweeping recommendations for improvements.

The report Records Management in the Victorian Public Sector, follows an investigation into whether agencies were managing records in accordance with the Public Records Act 1973, and whether the act was operating efficiently and effectively in facilitating sound records management in the public sector.

Bill for School PCs Likely to Blowout to $2billion

Following pressure from the states, it appears that the Federal Government has conceded that it will need to spend additional funds to implement its election promise to provide PCs to all year 9-12 students.

Victorian Auditor Finds Problems with HealthSMART

The Victorian Auditor-General has delivered a report following his review of the HealthSMART IT program for the Victorian public health sector program. He found a number of significant issues with the implementation.

The report, titled Delivering HealthSMART - Victoria's whole-of-health ICT strategy was tabled in Parliament on Wednesday 16 April.

HealthSMART is currently a six-year, $323 million technology program operating across the Victorian Public Health System (VPHS) and due for completion in June 2009.
