Tower Software's Success in Overseas Markets

Canberra-based Tower Software made the press this week with their $45m, 5 year win with the US Department of Defence for its TRIM enterprise content management software. The deal, said to be Tower’s “biggest ever”, extends US DoD licensing from 360,000 to more than 1 million.

Tower deserves the Australian ICT industry’s congratulations on its continuing success in the notoriously hard-to-crack US market.

Defence Surprise RFT Progress Report!

On Monday 8 May 2006 Defence issued a press release on the progress of its request for tender (RFT) for the Regional Information and Communications Technology Market Testing Project.

The RFT, released in July 2005 closed November 2005. It invited suitable organisations to tender for the provision of ICT service management across 460 Defence bases and sites. The scope of these services covers 470 Australian Public Service positions and 170 Australian Defence Force positions.

Defence Dominates The Hardware Market

Dominant in the overall Federal Government ICT marketplace, the Department of Defence is even more dominant in the market for Hardware. In 2005-06, Defence accounted for almost half of the $533 million hardware contracts awarded, by value.

More than 4,000 ICT contracts incorporating Hardware were signed by Federal Government agencies in the 12 months to June 2006. This is up almost 25% on the previous year.

The Government's Defence and Industry Policy Statement was released on 1 March 2007. It outlines the Government's priorities and initiatives for ensuring a sustainable in-country defence industry able to support the Australian Defence Forces.

Defence Releases Updated Network Centric Warfare Roadmap

In line with its policy to keep industry informed about future opportunities, the Department of Defence has released an outline of steps it plans to achieve with the goal of a combined, seamless NCW force by 2020.

NCW uses modern information technology to link sensors, decision-makers and weapons systems. To improve coordination across the three arms of the Australian Defence Forces, Defence will develop a single information network. The new network will automate the transfer of information, much of which is transferred manually at present.
