Tenders for Christmas

Smartcard vendors will have a lot more to chew over this Christmas than the usual cake and pudding, given two significant tenders coming from the Federal Department of Human Services:

NSW DOCS Director General Sought

Since the election of the Iemma Government in March, there have been a number significant changes at Director General level in key agencies. There are now new heads at the Department of Commerce, the NSW Health Department, The Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Department of Education and Training.

It now appears that these appointments did not complete the 'refresh' of Department Heads.

NSW Parliamentary Services Looks for New Executive Manager

A new senior position has been created within the Department of Parliamentary Services to provide services to both houses of NSW Parliament. With an annual remuneration package of $219,700, the Executive Manager, Parliamentary Services will be responsible for providing a range of services to Members of Parliament and the Departments of the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly.

Provision of these services was previously the responsibility of the clerks of both houses.

Vacancy for Corporate Services Position in NSW With IT Responsibility

NSW Attorney General's Department is advertising for a new Director Corporate Services "to play a pivotal role in the leadership team during a period of significant structural, cultural and technology driven change."

This position is available following the move of Michael Talbot to the position of Assistant Director General, Court and Tribunal Services.

Public Servants Unhappy but Loyal

A recent survey has found that Government employees have mixed feelings about their jobs. They are the most likely to hate their managers, hate their colleagues or be bored at work, yet they are the most likely to say they intend to stay working where they are for at least the next decade.

The annual survey by Seek Ltd Satisfaction and Motivation, found that 28% of Government employees are not happy with the quality of overall management where they work, 17% hate their boss and 7% hate the people they work with.

New Commissioner Appointed to ATO

The ATO has a new Second Commission of Taxation with the appointment today of David Butler to fill the position left vacant with the departure of Greg Farr for Defence in November 2007.

David Butler comes from Division Head, Tax Administration and Consumption Taxes Division with the OECD in Paris, a position he has held since November 2006.

It’s been a long road to forming government and now it has finally arrived we should remind ourselves of Labor’s agenda and the impact on the ICT market.

Firstly, the National Broadband Network (NBN) is now set to go ahead and to be a significant infrastructure investment by the Gillard Government.

Secondly, Labor will continue to invest in e-health initiatives, with a particular focus on online health and telemedicine services for regional areas, including Medicare rebates for online medical consultations and videoconferencing.
