Effective prospecting critical to government market success

In a market that has slowed dramatically in recent months, suppliers are keen to identify any news about where future opportunities may arise so they can develop strategies to capture those opportunities.

Intermedium’s January Quarterly Executive Brief suggests the market has suffered from the coincidence of three significant forces: the electoral cycle, the political cycle, and changes to procurement arrangements.  Together they have contributed to a continuation of the slowdown in...

Fujitsu/Kaz: A new force in government ICT markets

Following discussions that continued for more than 12 months, Telstra today announced it had finalized sale of its IT services arm, Kaz Group, to Fujitsu for $200 million.

Telstra acquired Kaz for $333 million in 2004, but since then has sold off several components of the business.

Kaz had been on the market for some time, with Fujitsu apparently the only serious bidder. Early in 2008, rumours were rife that Fujitsu was about to acquire Kaz, but the parties could not agree on price...

While skilled employees were most unlikely to be retrenched, the survey also found 20 per cent of businesses expected to sack staff and downsize as a result of the economic slowdown.

ANAO: Environmental measures won't offset ecological footprint

A report released last week by the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) has criticised government attempts to go green, saying that current measures will do little to offset the carbon footprint.

The Green Office Procurement and Sustainable Office Management Report reviewed the $26 billion per year the Federal Government spends on procuring services (including ICT) and on administration, finding there is still “considerable scope to reduce the ecological footprint”...
