Fujitsu/Kaz: A new force in government ICT markets

Following discussions that continued for more than 12 months, Telstra today announced it had finalized sale of its IT services arm, Kaz Group, to Fujitsu for $200 million.

Telstra acquired Kaz for $333 million in 2004, but since then has sold off several components of the business.

Kaz had been on the market for some time, with Fujitsu apparently the only serious bidder. Early in 2008, rumours were rife that Fujitsu was about to acquire Kaz, but the parties could not agree on price...

The Q3 2009-10 Federal Government System Integration (SI) Services market fell $63.3 million or 48% on the same period in 2008-09. 75 suppliers signed a total of 169 contracts worth $69.9 million with 35 agencies, with the top three suppliers accounting for 50% of the market in the quarter.

Surprises in ATO Shortlist for End-User Computing

The ATO has announced a shortlist of five companies to contest the end-user computing services contract expected to be worth up to $60 million per year, with a couple of surprises.

Following expressions of interest from 10 suppliers, the ATO has shortlisted CSC, EDS, KAZ, Unisys and Lockheed Martin.

The two surprises in this announcement are the inclusion of Lockheed Martin, a company better known for work in defence and aerospace sectors than more conventional ICT projects, and the absence of IBM.

How successful would you have been at guessing the Top 5 Federal Government ICT suppliers for 2006-07? Intermedium invited attendees at the Canberra State of the Market 2007 briefing to list the Top 5 suppliers, in order, and the results are very interesting!

Of the 31 people that voted (hoping to win a fabulous bottle of wine), 19 put IBM at #1, and all picked IBM in the Top 5. It seems this was no great surprise.

5 people correctly picked Telstra at #2, but perhaps surprisingly, 11 did not have Telstra in the Top 5...

Intermedium Reveals First Ranking in Federal Government ICT Top 100 2005/06

KAZ Technology Services has pipped the traditional “Big 3” – Telstra, IBM and EDS – to take Number 1 ranking in Intermedium’s Top 100 ICT Suppliers to the Federal government market for 2005-06.
