Defence Prospecting
Key facts about the Defence ICT Market
The Department of Defence and Defence Materials Organisation (DMO) together are the largest purchasers of ICT goods and services in Australia. Over the last four years, Defence ICT purchases have been larger than the next three largest agencies (Centrelink, ATO and DIAC) combined. With the rapid implementation of Network Centric Warfare, the inherent level of ICT across all elements of Defence will continue to increase.
ICT projects, either embedded as part of military systems, or as COTS acquisitions to support Defence activities, form a significant component of Australia’s Defence spending over the next 5-10 years, according to the 2009 Defence Capability Plan (DCP), released on 1 July 2009. Intermedium’s detailed analysis of the $60billion plan found that 62% of the 110 DCP projects have either a high or very high ICT component.
