Briefing Description

On 24 November, Lindsay Tanner, Minister for Finance and Deregulation, issued a press release to announce the Government will implement in full the recommendations of Sir Peter Gershon’s review of the Government’s use of information and communications technology (ICT).

Implementation will commence immediately as the Government has accepted the very tight implementation schedule recommended by Gershon.

View the Gershon Report.

Intermedium estimates the full effect of the Gershon Report recommendations will cut around $450m per annum from Federal Government external ICT spending, by 2010-11.

Amongst the recommendations mentioned in the press release is confirmation the number of ICT contractors will be cut by 50 per cent (phased in over 2009, 2010 and 2011), and agency “business as usual” ICT budgets will be cut saving around $400M annually once fully implemented. This includes a cut of 15% in the BAU spending of large agencies, and a 7.5% cut for smaller agencies.

What are the implications for ICT market?

Kevin Noonan, Intermedium’s Head of Consulting, will the focus on how these developments will impact the market in the next 12-18 months, particularly as the Government frames the budget for the 2008-09 financial year. He'll provide practical information and tips on how vendors might position for the post-Gershon environment.
