Labour Hire Index
This Index, sponsored by Peoplebank, aims to track and predict movements in the Federal Government ICT labour market. The index measures the average cost of an average unit of labour hire, derived by Intermedium from IT labour hire contracts, reported by Federal Government agencies, against a 2003-04 baseline.
Release 02: August 2009
Published 11 August 2009
Despite a long term upward trend in new Federal Government ICT Labour Hire contracts, the most recent data suggests there has been a continuing correction in the public sector labour hire market over the past twelve months.
The index peaked at 2,251 points in August 2006 and since then expenditure has fallen to 1,658 in September 2008 and further to 1,090 in March 2009.
The Index now stands at 1,050 - representing a fall of 54 percent since the 2006 peak, and a fall of over 35 percent since July 2008.
