The Australian Taxation Office’s new online ‘Services for Businesses’ portal is now live. The new platform replaces legacy systems that have existed as the primary online channel for tax services since 2004 and the Business Portal and Electronic Superannuation Audit Tool (eSAT).
The system has been designed with security and end-user experience as key priorities and was launched following a public beta testing period that began in January 2021. Feedback during the testing phase was used to make incremental improvements to the service.
In addition to the functions of the replaced Business Portal, the Services for Businesses Portal has updated features, such as phone and tablet compatibility, and the ability to toggle between separate accounts without logging in or out. As with the former Business Portal, the new system utilises myGovID and Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) as log in tools.
This is the second ATO portal to be replaced within the last two years. The former tax and BAS agent portals were replaced with Online Services for Agents (OSfA). The launch also comes just weeks after the ATO released its plans for a single digital mailbox as part of its $419.9 million modernising business registers program.
The legacy system will remain in place over the coming months to help businesses and customers adjust. The ATO issued calls for businesses to switch to the new system in early April.
