Call for industry involvement in Gershon implementation

In her address to the Intermedium briefing in Canberra last Thursday, Ann Steward (GCIO) outlined plans for engagement with industry as the Government implements the Gershon recommendations.

Ms Steward provided a detailed overview of current activities surrounding implementation of the Gershon recommendations, emphasising most involved a change of culture within the public service.

Ms Steward mentioned that many of the Gershon changes would be phased in over several years, with modest targets during year one, and with savings and more significant changes weighted towards the second and third years.

On several occasions during her presentation, she identified areas in which industry could play a role. Ms Steward called on the industry to work with the public sector to build capability in order to assist them to increase efficiency and reduce costs, including assistance with workforce plans.

Ms Steward said the Government was planning consultations with industry in late January.
