How successful would you have been at guessing the Top 5 Federal Government ICT suppliers for 2006-07? Intermedium invited attendees at the Canberra State of the Market 2007 briefing to list the Top 5 suppliers, in order, and the results are very interesting!

Of the 31 people that voted (hoping to win a fabulous bottle of wine), 19 put IBM at #1, and all picked IBM in the Top 5. It seems this was no great surprise.

5 people correctly picked Telstra at #2, but perhaps surprisingly, 11 did not have Telstra in the Top 5.

The surprise for many was Unisys. Only 5 (16%) selected Unisys in the Top 5.

13 people accurately selected CSC as one of the Top 5, but only 2 identified Optus as a Top 5 company.

Others suppliers that polled well were:

  • KAZ (27 votes) - actual ranking # 11
  • Accenture (14 votes) – actual ranking #29
  • EDS (18 votes) – actual ranking #12
  • HP (10 votes) – actual ranking #9

The winner of the fabulous bottle of wine was Phil Walker of Broadleaf Consulting. He was “nearest the pin”, correctly selecting IBM (1) and Telstra (2), as did 4 other people. Phil had Unisys at number 4, so was the closest and therefore, the winner. Congratulations Phil!
