Spun off from the CSIRO in February 2006, Funnelback is an internet and enterprise search engine company offering a suite of search solutions. Funnelback’s core technology is used to search for information contained in organisation's websites, intranets, file-shares, network drives, databases and other database applications such as CRMs and library catalogues.
Funnelback has been making inroads into the federal government market with a recently signed contract with the Department of Finance and Administration for IT System Development Services valued at $3.45m. The contract is for the development of a website www.australia.gov.au which allows users to find information and services via the 2000 links to over 750 Australian Government websites.
Aside from working with the federal government, Funnelback’s client list includes Westpac and the ASX, one third of all Australian Universities, NSW Department of Commerce, Queensland Government, WA Department of Agriculture as well as clients in the United Kingdom and Canada.
Funnelback is led by four directors appointed by the CSIRO. The Board is supported by Chief Executive Officer Jason Bresnehan.
Former CSIRO engineers Francis Crimmins and Brett Matson lead the R&D and Products & Services Divisions of the company respectively, while Funnelback founder Dr David Hawking remains the company’s Chief Scientist.
Funnelback continues to have a strong research and development alliance with the CSIRO ICT Centre. The CSIRO ICT Centre’s focus is to build technologies that enable enterprises to respond rapidly to unforeseen information needs across data, document, and streaming information.
