Gartner Closes Consulting Operations in Australia

Subscriber preview

Gartner's consulting operations in Australia and Hong Kong ceased on 16 May, with the loss of 18 staff. Gartner is not a major player in Australian government ICT markets, but Intermedium’s research shows that Gartner signed 46 consulting contracts with Federal Government agencies last financial year valued at $6.6m. While Gartner explains its withdrawal as part of rationalisation and focusing on growth markets, a range of industry analysts suggest that this is an example of a global player that doesn't sufficiently understand the Australian local market.

Detailed information about the Federal Government ICT consulting market is available in Intermedium’s 2005-06 IT Services Report. The report shows that Gartner is ranked at number 48 amongst suppliers in a market dominated last year by KAZ, EDS and IBM.
