Minister for Finance and Deregulation (Finance) Lindsay Tanner has named the Government’s interim data centre panel.
The five companies on the panel are:
- Canberra Data Centres;
- Fujitsu Australia Limited;
- Global Switch Property Australia;
- Harbour MSP Pty Ltd; and
- Polaris Data Centres.
Previously, Intermedium has reported AGIMO’s likely data centre directions.
Last week, Minister for Finance and Deregulation Lindsay Tanner announced five companies will make up the Australian Government’s interim panel for data centre facilities and services.
The move is in response to recommendations made by UK government efficiency expert, Sir Peter Gershon, in his report tabled for the Federal Government this time last year, Review of the Australian Government's Use of Information and Communication Technology.
Tanner said the panel will provide interim data centre facilities and services to Government agencies to meet urgent requirements.
“In his review, Sir Peter Gershon foresaw the need for interim arrangements to be put in place to assist agencies in continuing to deliver government services,” Lindsay Tanner said.
“The Government recognises this need and have offered all agencies the opportunity to seek access to these additional resources, with only a few needing to do so.”
Lindsay Tanner said the development of the whole of government strategy was progressing well with a report expected to be delivered by the end of the year.
“The Government has consulted widely with industry in the development of this strategy and we are confident that through it, we will achieve further efficiencies and improve our ability to provide reliable and sustainable services.”
