There are some meaty implications for the ICT industry in New Zealand’s 2021-22 Half Year Economic and Fiscal Update, released by Minister of Finance Grant Robertson on 15 December 2021.
The Update outlines a pressing need to overhaul ageing ICT assets, particularly in the health and education sectors. It states the need for agencies to comply with existing ‘cloud-first’ policies, warns of the likelihood of acute skilled labour shortages in 2022, and suggests the possibility of a digital services tax in 2024.
