NSW Government launches GCIO website, provides overview of People First 2008 Strategy

The NSW Department of Commerce’s Government Chief Information Office (GCIO) website is up and running.

In its first few weeks, it had very little substantive content, but it now has a run down on three key areas of focus and the eight underlying programs of “People First: The NSW Government ICT Strategy”. This is a subtle title distinction as the first version was People First, NSW Government ICT Strategic Plan.

Disappointingly, much of the material appears about the 2008 Strategy is at the PR level and where it does become more specific, it is in listing achievements rather than outlining plans. In this sense, it will be as hard as ever for industry to identify where potential areas of opportunity will arise.

The new website features a portal, developed by GCIO as a secure environment where “authorised individuals” can obtain information 24/7.

It is possible that more detailed information is now available to agencies, but not yet in the public domain.

The site is at www.gcio.nsw.gov.au.
