Defence Chief Information Officer Greg Farr has received a Public Service Medal on Australia Day, in recognition of the comprehensive reforms he has introduced to the management of ICT at the Department of Defence.
“He has provided strategic guidance for the largest transformation of ICT activities ever undertaken in the Department,” according to the notes accompanying the announcement.
Tim Hume is the new Chief Information Officer at the NSW Department of Family and Community Services, replacing long time CIO Kerry Holling who left the Department in July 2011. Hume leaves NSW Health, where he was the Director of Strategy and Architecture, to take up the role.
Benchmarking data released by the Department of Finance and Deregulation shows that Federal agencies reported spending a total of $5.07 billion on ICT in 2009-10. In 2008-09, this figure was $5.02 billion. Intermedium is currently assessing this data against our own contract figures to compile a comprehensive analysis for our readership.
Marlene Morison has become the newest Queensland Corrective Service Commissioner, meaning that she will now lead the Department.She replaces Kelvin Anderson, who was promoted to the role of Director-General for the Department of Community Safety, which takes in Corrective Services as well as Queensland Ambulance Service, the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service and Emergency Management Queensland.
In NSW, the Department of Finance and Services is on the look-out for a Deputy Director-General to be in charge of Corporate Services. According to the Department’s organisation chart, the successful candidate will oversee internal ICT, procurement and human resources. Whole-of-Government ICT policy will remain under the control of the Government Services Division.
The Australian Taxation Office has invited tenders for the provision of a comprehensive and wholly independent ICT managed services solution for the Taxation Practitioner’s Board, which employs 160 people.
South Australia’s Playford City Council has invited tenders to replace 300 desktops and laptops, plus their accessories, which have reached the end of their useable life.
From 15 February 2012, citizens of Argentina and Brazil will be able to apply for an Australian Tourist Visa online, and then track the progress of the approval.
“A notification is sent to the client at the time of decision, providing details of the visa, and airlines are able to confirm the visa entitlements through the Advance Passenger Processing system,” said a spokesman for the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
