Lord Mayor of Brisbane Council, Graham Quirk, has announced that the city’s Business and Systems Efficiency (BaSE) program will be re-opened, after having been shelved as a consequence of the Queensland Floods. The $194 million SAP roll-out will be undertaken by Accenture over a period of ten years, according to The Brisbane Times.

Members of the Department of Defence’s Applications Managed Services Partner Arrangement (AMSPA) are still reaping the benefits of the relationship, with BAE Systems being awarded a $17.2 million contract for ICT support services, no doubt related its appointed domain of expertise, Warfighter and Intelligence systems.

The Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) will refresh and expand its Support Services Panel, which will now include Geospatial Systems/Software Development amongst the 98 skill sets that it now covers.

Randall Straw, Deputy Secretary Innovation and Technology at Victoria’s Department of Business and Innovation (DBI) has been awarded a Public Service Medal for his service to the public as a “leading advocate, strategist and practitioner of technology-based innovation, and for making a significant contribution to the development of Victoria's public sector, ICT industry and research base”.

The WA Police has signed a $3.3 million contract with Motorola Australia for maintenance and support of its Computer Aided Despatch (CAD) System out to June 2015.

The WA Police has also approached the market to source a browser-based, secure system to allow critical information to be distributed to the public, stakeholders and news media. The system will be used by multiple emergency services agencies in the State.

The ACT Government has revealed that it intends to approach the market in June 2012 to source both fixed-line and mobile telephones for use by its employees.

It will also seek out the provision of Commercial off the Shelf solutions for an Enterprise Monitoring System and an IT Service Management system, within the same June timeframe.

The Department of Human Services has purchased $15 million worth of desktop hardware from Acer, via the whole-of-government Desktop Hardware Panel.

The Department of Finance and Deregulation has signed a $2.2 million contract with Infront Systems to redevelop the Commonwealth’s Central Budget Management System (CBMS).  More than $63 million has been spent on the CBMS redevelopment since it was first funded in the 2010-11 Federal Budget.

First Assistant Secretary at the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO), John Sheridan, has told a Senate Estimates hearing that the Federal Government’s fleet of telepresence facilities is reaching capacity and needs to expand after exceeding usage expectations.

The facilities are estimated to have saved $26 million in travel costs since they were established in 2009, more than double the original target reports PS News.
