Construction has begun on the Unanderra data centre that will house the NSW Government’s information and applications from late 2013 on. The facility is one of two data centres being built by Metronode under an $182 million agreement with the State.

UXC Limited has been awarded a $40 million contract to deliver and install ICT infrastructure for the new Gold Coast University Hospital currently being constructed by Lend Lease. Delivery is due to take place over the coming 12 months, and the hospital is expected to be up and running by September 2013, five months later than originally forecast.

Nextgen Networks has become the latest provider to win a deal through its membership of the whole-of-government Internet Based Network Connections (IBNC) panel. It has signed a $7 million contract with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

Queensland Minister for Science, IT, Innovation and the Arts, Ros Bates, has been in the news again. The Courier Mail reports that IT firm Technology One donated $3000 towards Ms Bates' 2012 election campaign and gained four meetings with the Minister once she won office.

With the Minister in hospital following a serious fall at her home, an industry briefing on the now completed ICT Audit originally scheduled to be held tomorrow (27 November) has been postponed indefinitely.

Chief Information Officer at the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) Peter Qui has told IT News that work is underway on a three year data centre strategy for the agency. Qui said he wanted to see the strategy bring physical servers as a percentage of total servers in use down from the current 20 per cent to below 15 percent this financial year.

The Victorian Department of Justice has called for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the “provision of software, and related implementation and support services, for a large scale, multi-site Electronic Health Records solution across the Victorian prison and policing system”. Selected EOI respondents may be invited to submit tenders in February 2013.

Old Parliament House has published details of its ICT shared services arrangement with the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. A posting on AusTender shows that the inter-agency deal is worth $2.7 million over the three years from October 2010 to August 2013.

The Department of Health and Ageing has spent $430,538 to update its HP TRIM licences for another two years.

Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings has said that close to nine out of ten requests for tender released by her Government end with contracts being awarded to Tasmanian companies, in response to calls for State intervention after a Chinese company won a major rail contract.

First Assistant Secretary Agency Services, at the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) John Sheridan has taken to Twitter to announce that prominent Gov 2.0 advocate Pia Waugh will join the Office as a divisional coordination officer, working on agency services and Whole-of-Government ICT matters.
