The recently re-named Transport for NSW has caught up with its Victorian counterpart by releasing a real-time transport information app for smartphones and iPads.
The Transport Department appears to have had the project in mind for some time, releasing an EOI for the development of a smartphone application in May 2010. In Victoria, the real-time Yarra Trams app has been available for several years.
The Department of Defence has received First Pass Approval for phases two and three of its Air Traffic Management Control System project (AIR 5431). The phases, which have a combined budget between $300 million and $500 million, will “deliver replacement surveillance radars, and tower and approach automation systems for the current systems which are approaching the end of their life of type” according to a Defence statement.
The Department has also received combined First and Second Pass Approval for Phase 2A of the Battlespace Communications System project (JP 2072), freeing up funding of around $450 million for the purchase of 11,000 digital combat radios, among other things.
Also at Defence, Thales has been selected to deliver the pilot stage of the next generation desktop capability project. The contract is worth $6.2 million.
