The Australian Taxation Office has signed a $6.8 million nine-month deal with Accenture for the provision of design, building, testing and implementation of its $68.5 million ‘Towards a better business future’ (TBBF) program designed to improve the operation of the Australian Business Register.

The Department of Defence is looking to outsource management of its software contracts to a single provider under a managed service delivery model, reports IT News. This will include major software suites from IBM, Oracle, SAP, Adobe, HP, Objective and Compuware, as well as the Department’s central IBM smart cloud control desk asset repository.

The Department of Human Services (DHS) has awarded a $14.6 million contract to Acer for IT hardware services through the whole-of-government panel for desktop hardware. The contract has a term of two months.

DHS has also signed a $2.8 million one-year contract with Fuji Xerox for the provision of printers and multifunction devices, through the whole-of-government panel for Major Office Machines.

The Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIICCSRTE) has awarded a $1.8 million two-month contract to Hewlett Packard Australia for the provision of virtual desktop infrastructure equipment and support.

The 2013-14 Queensland State Budget, due in June, will include an $8 billion deficit due to revenue falls from royalties, payroll and stamp duty, reports the Australian. This is a significant increase from the $4.6 billion deficit previously forecast.

The upcoming Northern Territory budget will include a further $15.6 million towards its flawed Asset Management System.The whole-of-government system was initially designed to replace nine agency-based systems. Its roll-out is currently $50 million over budget and over two-years late.

The Department of Finance and Deregulation has recently had over 100 Australian Government Twitter accounts verified and estimates that they have combined followers exceeding 500,000. Finance recommends that agencies currently not on Twitter secure an account in their agency name and set it to protected mode to ensure that they are not misrepresented by fraudulent users.

BMC has been sold for $US6.9 billion to private investors who were recently part of a failed bid to buy Compuware for $US2.3 billion, reports IT Wire.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is planning to release its second iOS app and redesign its website to increase accessibility for mobile devices this year, reports Computerworld. The Run This Town app, to be released around June, targets school-aged children with a game involving census data. The existing ABS Stats app is a finalist for the 2013 Excellence in eGovernment Awards.

Telecommunications firm BT is leading the push to fast track the roll-out of telehealth services in Australia, based on a similar e-health initiative in Britain, reports the Australian.

The SA Water Corporation has contracted Velrada to upgrade its SharePoint 2007 software to the 2010 version and for the implementation of a new records management tool. The deal, valued at $2.3 million, is due to expire in June 2014.
