The new Chair of the National Broadband Network Co Board Ziggy Switkowski will oversee a strategic review into the progress of the NBN, including the extent and cost of its rollout and its administrative status, reports PS News. The review will also compare the cost and time of continuing with the rollout of a fibre to the premises model or moving to an alternative model.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is looking for a General Manager, NBN Engagement and Group Coordination to develop the role of the agency in the Government’s NBN rollout and policy. In particular, the successful candidate will consider the competition implications of the NBN, emerging broadcasting and digital economy issues and relevant reporting and information requirements. Applications close on 27 October 2013.

Queensland Health has issued an Invitation to Offer (ITO) for new servers, Oracle Standard System Installation Services and Oracle Premier Support for Systems for ICT infrastructure within the agency as part of the UNIX Hardware Replacement Project. The project is responsible for undertaking the replacement of “critical failing or at capacity UNIX hardware”. The main objective of the project is “to establish a prioritised list of Department of Health UNIX assets for replacement over the next two years”. Submissions close on 28 October 2013.

WA Health’s 2012-13 annual report states that the department cut ICT spending by $77 million over the financial year. The total ICT expenditure for 2012-13 was $248.5 million compared to $326.2 million in 2011-12. The 2012-13 State Budget aimed to defer $1.8 billion of capital expenditure over five years as stated in the Government’s Asset Investment Program.

The WA Department of Finance’s 2012-13 annual report has revealed that it is in the final stages of transitioning the Shared Services Office into Finance. The reports says that the Department will transition Shared Services payroll and finance services “at the final stage of decommissioning in late 2013”. The decision to decommission the office was announced in 2011 after a report by the Economic Regulation Authority found that it was costing the Government money rather than finding savings. The Office provided agencies with procurement, financial and human resources services.

The WA Department of Culture and Arts is developing an Online Grants Management System following a funding process review in 2010. The agency’s 2012-13 annual report notes that it is currently implementing stage one of review recommendations by developing the system.
