NBN Co has announced that advisory firms Deloitte, Boston Consulting Group and KordaMentha will provide consultancy services for its Strategic Review of the National Broadband Network (NBN). Deloitte will provide governance and program management office services, KordaMentha will assist in the analysis of the operational and financial performance of the current NBN, and Boston Consulting will review the timing and financials of alternative models. The results of the Strategic Review will inform NBN Co’s 2014-17 Corporate Plan.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the upgrade of its current Microsoft Exchange 2007 and IronPort gateway system to the latest Microsoft Exchange 2013. BOM is seeking EOIs from external providers to propose an upgrade path to a managed solution based on Microsoft Exchange 2013. EOI responses close on 6 November 2013, and BOM intends to complete the systems upgrade by June 2014.
Oracle has won a contract with HealthShare NSW for the provision of database and cloud hardware to underpin a database-as-a-service solution, reports ZDNet. Oracle will roll out its Exadata Database Machines and its Exalogic Elastic Cloud Machine to the agency to reduce costs, increase efficiency and cope with new processing requirements. HealthShare NSW is already using Oracle's E-Business Suite with Oracle Fusion Middleware and Database to assist with agency-wide HR and payroll systems. According to Oracle, these new systems are able to process payroll in a quarter of the time previously possible.
The former Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (now split into the Department of Industry, the Department of the Environment and the Department of Education) has signed a $76,000 contract with Emantra for a cloud reporting solution Proof of Concept for the agency’s Training and Youth Internet Management System (TYIMS). The Pre-election Economic and Fiscal Outlook (PEFO) estimated a $19.7 million investment into online self-service capabilities for Australian apprentices and their employees which will pay for the replacement of the 12-year-old system.
Delimiter reports that SAP is integrating its Business ByDesign ERP software with the SAP HANA Cloud to form a single, unified business platform. The solution “will continue to be supported and actively promoted in its current functionality and scope through our extensive partner ecosystem”, according to an SAP spokesperson. The NSW Department of Trade and Investment, Regional Infrastructure and Services is currently using the Business ByDesign solution to manage its enterprise resource planning functions on a software as-a-service basis.
The Victorian Supreme Court is planning to redevelop its website for enhanced interactivity. “The community would be able to watch Video on Demand, download judgment summaries and judgments, leave comments on the Supreme Court News website or participate in an Internet Forum,” said Victorian Chief Justice Marilyn Warren last week. Guest blog posts by a retired judge, journalists and academics are also planned. The Supreme Court will begin using Facebook in addition to its Twitter account, and examine other social media avenues.
Transport NSW has appointed David Stewart as its new Director General, reports PSNews. Stewart is currently the head of Projects Queensland and was formerly a DG for the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads. He succeeds Les Wielinga who retired from the agency in September.
The Bundaberg Regional Council is looking to appoint a Chief Information Officer. The successful candidate will be required to implement key IT strategies, policies and procedures for the council’s IT systems. Applications for the position close on 4 November 2013.
Redland City Council has chosen Objective ECM as its enterprise content management (ECM) platform to serve around 900 city council employees. The platform was selected as part of the council’s information management strategy “aimed at streamlining internal efficiencies, removing information silos and ensuring a collaborative work environment”. ECM 8 will integrate the Council’s existing core business systems. It is expected to improve internal data management and enhance service delivery.
