Deputy Director General, Procurement, at NSW Department of Commerce and Deputy Chair, State Contracts Control Board, Paul Hopkins is following Michael Coutts-Trotter, the man who appointed him to his role at Commerce, to a strategic procurement role at the NSW Department of Education and Training.

Mr Hopkins is a procurement veteran who has been involved in the design and restructuring of procurement operations across both the private and government sectors. He has overseen major procurement reforms in NSW Commerce, including the recent and major telecommunication and desktop procurements.

He will be succeeded in the role at Commerce by David Callahan, most recently Regional General Manager, State Transit. The Minister, Eric Roozendahl, the Director-General, John Lee and now Callahan as a Deputy Director-General, inject a very strong transport background into the senior ranks at NSW Commerce.

Mr Callahan is understood to be around 30 years old. If this is the case, it will make him one of the youngest ever NSW Deputy Directors-General in history.
