The appointment of John Lee to the position of Director-General of the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet has left the top job at the NSW Department of Commerce vacant for the third time in four years.

David Callahan, brought into Commerce by John Lee, is currently acting in the role, making him one of the youngest ever Director-General’s in NSW.

In other senior moves, it is rumoured that Fran McPherson, currently showing as Head of Corporate Services at NSW Police in the NSW Directory, has now moved to a role at Premier and Cabinet, joining John Lee. The two are understood to have worked together in the past, with McPherson having spent time in transport related roles, including at State Rail.

Another question on everyone’s minds is who is in the running for the Head of Treasury role, following the departure of John Pierce? Strong speculation surrounds Michael Coutts-Trotter, currently Director-General of the NSW Department of Education and Training, and one time chief of staff to NSW’ longest serving Treasurer, Michael Egan, and Kerry Schott, currently Managing Director of Sydney Water Corporation.
