Vic heads towards state-wide free Wi-Fi

The Victorian Department of State Development, Business and Innovation (DSDBI) has issued Expressions of Interest for the development of its free public Wi-Fi network. Three EOIs have been released to explore the feasibility of developing Wi-Fi hotspots in Melbourne CBD, Central Bendigo and Central Ballarat. According to the EOI it “covers the first tranche of the rollout of Wi-Fi in Victoria which is to establish a free-to-use service… as a pilot to determine the feasibility and business models of free Public Wi-Fi services for the State. Expressions of Interest are open from Wednesday 12 March to Thursday 17 April 2014 with the Government expecting to award contracts from mid-2014.
