The ABC is going to market for cloud-based collaboration tools for its 6000 users, issuing a Request For Tender (RFT) for requirements including email, file and content sharing capabilities.
“The ABC’s strategic intent is to move to a fully cloud based solution, where viable and cost-effective, for the majority of its user base,” according to the RFT.
The move to cloud follows the NSW Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) agreement with Fujitsu, brokered by shared service provider Businesslink, to provide a cloud-hosted email service for approximately 27,000 mailboxes in the FaCS cluster agencies.
Tools sought by the ABC as outlined in the RFT include: email; calendar; tasks; unified communications; file and content sharing; electronic workflows; forms; internal digital workspaces; document authoring; document management; and social media. The ABC, who currently uses a number of providers for these services, plans to amalgamate these tools into a single solution.
The national broadcaster’s 6000 users are widely dispersed, but Sydney houses the majority with 2500 employees and is the primary gateway site for its hub-and-spoke network.
Suppliers must submit their applications by 25 August 2014.
