Winner of the SME Froggy Award for 2008

stratsec is an independent Australian-owned provider of information security consulting services to a diverse range of global clients, including business security consulting, ICT security, trusted advisory and technical assurance services.

stratsec is the winner of the inaugural Leaping Frog (Froggy) Award for SMEs, achieving an impressive 710% growth in ICT contracts with Federal Government in the three years to June 2008.

From modest sales of $255,000 in 2005-06, stratsec recorded contracts worth more than $2m in 2007-08.

stratsec numbers amongst its clients around 20 Federal agencies, the largest of which are Department of Defence, Department of Finance and Deregulation and Australian Customs Service.

Established in 2003, stratsec is now one of the region’s leading independent providers of security consulting services with clients in Australia, Asia, the US and Israel.

Doug Stuart and Peter Lilley started stratsec in 2003, after recognising a gap in the Australian market for an independent information security consultancy. The company now employs 22 information security specialists and counts Microsoft, SAIC, SanDisk and the Malaysian government among its overseas clients.

The firm has since expanded its consulting practice to include a licensed and internationally accredited IT security evaluation facility (stratsec lab) in order to undertake work for international clients and expand its export market.

Information security involves safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data. Protecting information is a growing concern for most businesses and government agencies as they amass an ever-growing amount of data relating to their customers, clients, products, financial status and employees. stratsec has worked with several Australian government agencies and financial institutions alongside its international clients.

Doug Stuart, co-founder of information security consultancy stratsec, believes being Australian has been key to his company’s international success. “Our direct and pragmatic Australian approach to what is generally a complex and intensive evaluation process has been a major advantage,” he explains. “Our unique approach has enabled us to engage and win contracts with major international software companies, despite competition from large multinational players.”

stratsec recently won the Emerging Exporter category at the ACT Export Awards, on top of securing the Telstra Business Award in successive years (2008 ACT Panasonic Australia Medium Business Award and 2007 ACT MYOB Small Business Award).
