Unisys Australia was runner up in the inaugural Intermedium Leaping Frog Award (Froggy). We profile Unisys and its growth in the Federal Government market.
The Froggy award recognises Federal Government ICT market suppliers that achieved the fastest rate of sales growth over three years, as measured by their aggregate annual contract value from 2004-05 to 2006-07.
Unisys achieved contracts in 2006-07 of $159 million, up from $4.5 million in 2004-05. This is an impressive rate of growth during the three years of 3,464%.
Unisys' success in the Froggy Award points to the ongoing heat in the IT Services segment of the market.
Unisys' major clients in the Federal Government market in recent years have been DIAC/DIMA, Defence and ANOA. Some of its most signigicant contracts in recent years include:
- $154m Managed Services (outsourcing) contract at DIAC (April 2007)
- Contract for Software at Defence ($3.5m, September 2005)
- Two SI contracts at DIMA in late 2006 with a total value of $2.9m (IT outsourcing and a biometric identity authentication solution)
- Hardware contract at Customs (March 2007, $522,000)
In January 2007, Defence announced that Unisys had been selected as the preferred tenderer for a five year contract to provide IT support services to 460 bases and establishments across Australia. This contract has yet to been signed.
The company has also established the Unisys Security Innovation Centre, in partnership with the University of Canberra and with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) a founding member. The Centre conducts research on a range of security initiatives including fingerprint and iris scanning, facial mapping, and voice- and vascular-recognition technology.
