The Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has become the latest Federal agency to procure data centre migration services from the whole-of-government panel established by AGIMO nearly a year ago. It has entered into a $3.4 million contract with Canberra Data Centres which will expire on 30 June 2016.

Update II: The Department of Finance and Deregulation has advised that this contract contains errors and that the agency will remove the notice from Austender.
Queensland Labor has announced that it will deliver 5,000 iPads to Queensland secondary schools if it is re-elected. $5.7 million will be allocated to fund a trial program of the scheme, which will see Year 7 students at twenty state high schools receive the tablets.
The Liberal National Party has committed to the delivery of over 7,200 tablets to special needs students across the State if it wins.
According to the Community and Public Service Union, 725 public sector jobs are set to fall as a result of increased Federal Government efficiency dividends. They will be cut from the Department of Employment Educations and Workplace Relations, Treasury and the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Dr Greg Ayers has resigned as the Director of the Bureau of Meteorology, citing ill health. Current Deputy Director for Climate and Water, Dr Rob Vertessy, will act as in the role until the Bureau can appoint a permanent replacement.
The Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth, Peter Garrett, has announced that over 911,000 computers have been installed at Australian schools to date as part of the National Secondary School Computer Fund.
IT Wirereports that Talent2 International has been selected to become the Queensland Government’s ICT contractor resource manager. The three-year contract will see a managed service program being implemented across all 13 Queensland Government agencies.
The Department of Human Services (DHS) reports that over 7.6 million in-hospital medical service claims have been lodged using the Electronic Claim Lodgement and Information Processing Service Environment (ECLIPSE) since the start of this financial year. The service enables health professionals to submit and retrieve eligibility checks quickly and carry out patient detail checks instantaneously.
