The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) is advertising for a new Assistant Secretary for its ICT Infrastructure Services Branch. The successful applicant will answer to Chief Information Officer Graham Gathercole, and will replace the current Assistant Secretary Steve Foley.

The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) has set a date for its Data Centre as a Service industry briefing. The event will be held on 2 May 2012 in Canberra and registrations can be made via AusTender.

The Department of Education Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) has signed a $19 million contract with CA Pacific for the Renewal of Mainframe software maintenance and support.

The Australian has reported that former CenITex boss Peter Blades is taking defamation action against The Age newspaper, over a series of stories it ran claiming that the Victorian IT shared services agency was marred by corruption and mismanagement.

The Victorian Auditor-General has criticised the State’s Government for knocking back a funding application by the Department of Human Services to establish an Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS), despite internal estimates suggesting that 90 per cent of the Department’s records were not being properly managed.

Melbourne Health, Victoria’s second largest health service, has invited tenders for the provision of a Patient Flow Management System. The new system will from part of “organisation-wide change in the way that clinical information is complied and presented for clinical and administrative decision making”.

The Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency (DCCEE) has more than doubled the value of its contract with CGI to $6.3 million. The contract covers Business Platforms Foundation Capabilities for the agency and has been signed through the Department of Human Service’s IT Services Panel.

Minister for Small Business Brendan O'Connor has announced that downloads of online business applications from the business.gov.au website has topped 1 million. The most popular tool is the business planning guide and template, which has been downloaded more than 400,000 times since December 2009.
