Fire and Rescue NSW is set to become one of the first of the State’s agencies to adopt a cloud-based email solution, as it moves from Novell Groupwise to Microsoft Exchange in the cloud, reports The Australian.

Transport for NSW has approached the market for proposals covering the end-to-end implementation of a social media strategy to enhance engagement and communication with customers. The tender closes on 18 March 2013.

In the latest stage of Canberra’s Secretary reshuffle, Blair Comley PSM has formally been appointed as Secretary of the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism. He replaces outgoing Secretary Drew Clarke PSM, who has moved onto the top job within the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy. Clarke himself replaces Peter Harris, who has been appointed chairman of the Productivity Commission.

Comley was formerly the Secretary of the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, with an announcement regarding his own replacement due soon.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) expects to go to market for its outsourced telecommunications services on 26 February 2013, to replace its expiring $12.9 million deal with AAPT.

Sydney Trains and NSW Trains have appointed new Chief Executives ahead of the abolishment of RailCorp in July 2013. Howard Collins and Rob Mason will head the State’s new rail service providers, reports PS News.

Uptake of the Federal Government’s Personally Controlled Electronic Health Records (PCEHR) system has not lived up to expectations since its launch in July 2012, with only 56,761 users registered so far. This is significantly short of the Department of Health and Ageing’s (DoHA) estimate of 500,000 registrations in the first year, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Workcover SA is looking for a new IT chief to replace the outgoing CIO, Gavin Woolford, reports CIOmagazine. The role includes the development of IT strategies and platforms and delivering on major IT projects.

SA’s Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure is looking for a Director of Information Technology to lead ICT functions and provide advice about ICT investment priorities. The CIO-equivalent position will answer to the Executive Director, Corporate Services Division. Applications close 1 March 2013.

The Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs has approached the market for a contractor to host, manage and maintain its Disability Ideas Informing Practice website from April 2013, for an initial term of two years. Tenders close 12 March 2013.

Finance has awarded a $2.7 million contract to Verizon for the provision of Secure Internet Gateway Services from December 2012 to December 2015.
