The Department of Human Services (DHS) has inked a $10.9 million hardware deal with Fuji Xerox for office machinery through the whole-of-government panel for office machines, supplies and accessories. The contract is due to expire in June 2014.
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has signed a $12 million agreement with Telstra for telephony services, expiring in March 2016.
Verizon has increased the floor space in its Fyshwick data centre in response to increased demand from government clients, reports IT News. The facility in Canberra is currently used by a number of public agencies, including the Department of Defence, Medicare and the Attorney-General’s office. Verizon is not presently a member of the Federal Data Centre Facilities Panel.
The NSW Department of Education and Communities is undertaking a two-year project to replace ageing library systems in state schools with a web-based system, reports the Sydney Morning Herald. The project, beginning in June 2013, will include installation of up to 2,274 instances of the new system.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has awarded a $2.7 million contract to DWS for the ongoing development of its e-tax for Mac application, which is expected to be available to users by the end of the 2012-13 financial year. The deal is a continuation of the ATO’s three-year arrangement with the IT services provider for the maintenance and development of the e-tax application.
The Australian Defence Signals Directorate’s top four information security mitigation strategies relating to application whitelisting, patching applications, patching operating system vulnerabilities and minimising the number of users with administrative rights are now mandatory across all Government agencies, reports ZDNet.
The Department of Finance and Deregulation is planning to move data.gov.au onto a CKAN open data platform that is available to all agencies, with an agency briefing to be held on 19 April. A draft roadmap expects the migration of current data onto the CKAN platform to be complete by the end of April 2013, and anticipates ongoing dialogue with partnering agencies over a 12-month period.
Transport for NSW is busily promoting six new apps providing real-time information about train and bus services. The apps were developed in conjunction with winners of the Government’s apps4NSW competition.
The trial of Transport for NSW’s Opal card electronic ticketing system has been extended to Manly ferry services, following its implementation on the Neutral Bay ferry route. The Opal card is expected to be available on all ferry services by the end of 2013, and on most train and bus services by 2015.
The Department of Defence has signed a $10.5 million contract for software and support services with Compuware, which is due to expire in June 2016.
Defence has signed a $5.7 million deal with CSC Australia for an electronic health data information system, with the contract term expiring in December 2017.
