The Australian Taxation Office’s managed network services contract with Optus has been extended by two years to March 2015 and increased in value to $310.9 million from its original $216.9 million.

The Queensland Government has decided to scrap its delayed and significantly over budget travel management IT system and start again, reports the Brisbane Times. The fully integrated portal for hotel, airline and car hire bookings and expense claims was due to be rolled out by 2008 at a cost of of $2.2 million, but has not yet reached 50 per cent completion and has cost $7.69 million to date.

The Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) has signed two contracts worth over $94 million combined for electronic support systems with Exelis Australia, which is a provider of communications, intelligence, command and control systems and services. Both contracts have four-year terms, expiring in July 2017.

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) has selected NEC to provide IT support and maintenance to federal electorate offices in a $5.8 million three-year deal expiring April 2016. According to the request for tenders released in April 2012, the contract will include on-site software and hardware support at around 260 locations.

Western Australia’s whole-of-government panel for telecommunications services has been extended by one year to 11 April 2014, with one remaining 12 month extension option.

The Department of Finance and Deregulation has called for volunteer redundancies before the end of the financial year following its failure to achieve the savings required under the 4 per cent efficiency dividend, reports the Canberra Times.

Carsten Larsen, General Manager, Corporate and Co-ordination at the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has told CIOmagazine that ACMA has created private cloud infrastructure to manage a number of its systems, including sensitive data.

NSW Businesslink will be procuring a cloud-based solution for corporate performance management and business intelligence from Adaptive Planning reseller ABM Systems, reports IT Wire.

The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) has begun the search for a chief information officer with responsibility for the development and implementation of ICT policy and strategy, enterprise architecture and business and data management, reports CIOmagazine. The full-time position will also oversee management of an ICT project management office.

Responsibility for ICT in WA has been assumed by Michael Nahan, who was been appointed Minister for Energy; Finance; Citizenship and Multicultural Interests from on March 2013.

Public sector reforms in WA will see the replacement of the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) with a Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPW) and Department of Environmental Regulation (DER), reports PS News.

The Queensland Government’s Commission of Inquiry into the Queensland Health Payrollreplacement has been extended by three months to 31 July 2013.
